As a Director of Desert Capital REIT, G. Steven Dawson, applies his more than 24 years of experience in real estate finance and financial management. Mr. Dawson is currently a private investor and the majority owner of a Houston-based commercial mortgage company.

Mr. Dawson served as Chief Financial Officer of Camden Property Trust from 1990 to 2003. During that time, he was a member of the highly regarded executive management team that was responsible for growing Camden from a small, local multifamily owner/operator into one of the largest multifamily companies in the United States, with $3.5 billion in total capitalization, an investment-grade credit rating, and a track record of consistent earnings growth.

In his position as CFO, Mr. Dawson was responsible for Camden’s financial strategies and executions, including capital markets transactions, corporate and project finance, investor relations, planning and forecasting, and reporting activities for the New York Stock Exchange-traded company. He also oversaw the organization’s legal services, human resources and information technologies activities, and was actively involved in working with the company’s board of trust managers on strategies, compensation, audit, and governance matters.

In addition to his prior experience as an executive with a publicly traded REIT, Mr. Dawson serves on the boards of directors of five other companies, including: AmREIT, Inc., (AMEX: AMY) a Houston-based owner and developer of retail properties; Medical Properties Trust, a Birmingham, Alabama-based REIT specializing in the ownership of acute care and related healthcare facilities; American Campus Communities, (NYSE: ACC) an Austin, Texas-based REIT focused on the development, acquisition and management of student housing properties; NetVersant, Inc., a private, Houston-based, national network cabling contractor; and U.S. Restaurant Properties, Inc., (NYSE: USV) a Dallas-based REIT which owns fast-food and casual dining restaurants and convenience stores. He generally serves on or chairs the audit, compensation and/or nominating/governance committees for these companies.

Mr. Dawson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Texas A&M University in 1980 and was formerly a Certified Public Accountant. He lives in Sugar Land, Texas.
